At New Life Academy, we believe healthy students are better prepared to learn, grow, and thrive. We are committed to creating a school environment that promotes nutritious choices, regular physical activity, and lifelong healthy habits.

A Commitment to Health & Wellness

New Life Academy maintains a Health and Wellness Advisory Council that meets periodically throughout the year to address student nutrition and physical activity.

The Council helps develop, implement, and evaluate guidelines that support a healthy school environment. These guidelines are reviewed annually and updated as needed to continue supporting the health and well-being of our students.

Daily Physical Activity

Students in grades K–12 are encouraged to participate in at least 60 minutes of physical activity each day through a combination of physical education, recess, classroom movement, athletics, and other opportunities for active play.

Physical activity is an important part of student wellness and supports healthy development, concentration, and readiness to learn.

Recess & Active Play

Students are provided opportunities for supervised recess and active play, preferably outdoors when weather and safety conditions permit.

Recess provides an opportunity to:

  • Stay active in a safe and enjoyable environment

  • Take a healthy break from classroom instruction

  • Develop social and physical skills through active play

  • Build positive, lifelong attitudes toward physical activity

Recess complements Physical Education and is not intended to replace PE instruction.

Movement & Active Learning

New Life Academy encourages movement throughout the school day. Teachers may incorporate short 3–5 minute physical activity or “brain breaks” during extended periods of academic instruction.

Movement and kinesthetic learning may also be incorporated into subjects such as math, science, language arts, and social studies to help reduce prolonged inactivity and keep students engaged.

Building Healthy Habits for Life

Through nutrition education, physical activity, active learning, and a supportive school environment, New Life Academy strives to give students the foundation they need to make healthy choices both in and outside of school.
